NIGERIAN IMMIGRATION RECRUITMENT: Many Feared Dead, Many Injured As Millions Show Up For 3000 Job Openings

The Nigerian immigration recruitment exercise which took place today was more like a world cup tournament. The outcome of the exercise was quite awful as horrible things happened.

Three pregnant women participating in the Benin zone of the immigration recruitment exercises slumped and died immediately inside the main bowl of Samuel Ogbemudia stadium on Saturday.

The applicants had turned up for the exercise as early as 6am , but the screening couldn’t start till 2:15pm when some of the applicants started leaving after the stampede .

Trouble started around 10 am, when the immigration officials incharge of the screening lost control of the crowd prompting the soldiers on guard to start shooting sporadically in into the air.

Over twenty eight thousands applicants that took part in the one day exercise started running for safety that resulted in stampede .

Applicants who had gathered in the Abuja stadium to write the aptitude test to apply for job as well experienced some kind of stampede too.

There are reports that the stampede in the Abuja centre left at least seven people killed and dozens injured during the test in Abuja. Among the dead were some pregnant women.

However according to an eyewitness who was present at the scene, the casualties stated were more than that saying "It was up to fifty that were injured and 25 were dead".

Although there's has been no official list of casualties yet. The bodies of the dead applicants have been deposited at the National Hospital Abuja morgue.
